Background of the Study
Rural development communication is a critical aspect of fostering growth and sustainability in underdeveloped areas. Photography, as a visual communication tool, plays a significant role in documenting and conveying the realities of rural communities to a broader audience. In Kwami Local Government Area, Gombe State, photography has been employed to highlight issues such as inadequate infrastructure, agricultural challenges, and community resilience. According to Ahmed and Musa (2024), photographs can simplify complex narratives, making them more accessible to policymakers, donors, and the public. Despite its potential, the strategic use of photography in rural development communication remains underexplored in Kwami. This study investigates the role of photography in enhancing rural development communication, emphasizing its impact on awareness, advocacy, and action.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Kwami faces numerous rural development challenges, including poor access to education, healthcare, and sustainable livelihoods. While communication efforts exist, they often fail to resonate with stakeholders due to the lack of compelling visual narratives. Photography, which has the power to humanize and contextualize these challenges, is not widely utilized in rural development campaigns. Furthermore, there is limited research on the impact of photography in rural development communication in Kwami (Abubakar & Tukur, 2023). This study addresses these gaps by examining the role of photography in communicating rural development issues and solutions.
